Tela, Honduras Mission Trip

Through our most recent Palmisano Foundation Scholarship recipient, Dariana Bueso Echeverria, Impetus was made aware of a school in Tela, Honduras, that was in dire need of assistance to repair damages from Hurricanes Eta and Iota in 2020.

Prior to our arrival, the school operated with only a few working toilets and limited city-provided water supply for over 375 students and staff. In addition, their frequently used outdoor performance and education area was structurally damaged. After scoping and designing solutions alongside a Honduras-based architect and engineering team, a two-phased approach was developed to complete the flowing repairs: 1) design, coordinate and fund the performance stage’s structural repairs and water storage and distribution system and 2) sprint by our team fixing toilet rough-in’s, setting 11 new fixtures, removing old partitions and installing new doors/hardware, installing bathroom cabinets, parge and seal performance stage wall, and clean/prep/paint all affected surfaces.

It was a humbling experience for all and we look forward to building a better worldbuilding a better world through future mission trips!
